Expanding Resources to Navigate the Complexity of International Business Opportunities
Posted July 28, 2010
The complexities of U.S. tax law are multiplied when a U.S.-based company begins exploring global business opportunities. Corporate structure, supply chain, cross-border transactions, method and timeline of revenue declaration, international accounting issues and many other factors will impact the U.S. company’s tax obligations here and abroad.
It takes a worldwide perspective to effectively and efficiently manage multi-jurisdictional tax issues. For many companies, having sufficient in-house capabilities and expertise to keep pace with foreign tax issues is not an option.
Clifton Gunderson’s experienced tax professionals and global resources are available to help businesses meet all of their cross-border objectives. From international auditing and accounting, to transfer pricing, international tax compliance, foreign repatriation planning and more, we know what it takes to start and succeed in the international marketplace.
Gunderson Acquires U.S. Tax Advantage
Clifton Gunderson’s global capabilities recently expanded with the acquisition of U.S. Tax Advantage, LLC (USTA), an international tax consulting services firm with locations in New York, Boston, Chicago, Milwaukee and Houston. USTA specializes in global tax optimization for U.S. and foreign-based companies.
Through this acquisition, Clifton Gunderson adds several international tax professionals to the firm, including partners Mark Gasbarra and Lester Fuwa. Gasbarra joins Clifton Gunderson as managing partner of Global Tax Services. Fuwa is partner-in-charge of Global Tax Solutions, USTA’s Web-based software platform.
Together, Clifton Gunderson and USTA are now one of the leading providers of international tax services among public accounting and consulting firms serving middle-market clients.
HLB International – The Power of Networking
Clifton Gunderson’s global perspective is further broadened by our association with independent peer firms in our international network, HLB International. Formed in 1969, HLBI is one of the world’s largest networks of independent professional accounting firms and business advisors. It is made up of member firms in over 100 countries that, collectively, have more than 13,400 staff members and 440 offices in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia.
As a key member of HLBI, Clifton Gunderson can call on 1,750 member firm partners in virtually every business market worldwide to handle multi-national assignments varying enormously in size and complexity. Clients gain worldwide reach and experience, while maintaining relationships with their domestic contacts.
International Audit and Accounting
Efforts are underway to adopt a set of global accounting standards and practices, but those proposed standards are still under development. As a result, companies doing business in the global marketplace need a CPA and consulting firm with experience in reconciling the differences between U.S. and international auditing and accounting standards.
Clifton Gunderson can coordinate audits of affiliated companies worldwide, under International Financial Reporting Standards or on a local statutory basis, and convert financial information to a consistent basis of accounting for consolidation purposes. The firm’s international assurance services take into consideration the unique operating conditions faced in other countries.
